Project Importance: The Challenges of Winter in Displacement Camps

As winter approaches, bringing plummeting temperatures, heavy rainfall, and flooding, hundreds of thousands of displaced people across the Gaza Strip face extremely harsh living and health conditions. Families are forced to live in temporary tents and damaged shelters that lack even the most basic means of protection.

These conditions significantly increase the risk of respiratory illnesses, hypothermia, and damage to the limited belongings families have managed to preserve.

Al-Tayseer Charity Association’s Winter Relief Campaign is an urgent, direct humanitarian response designed to provide comprehensive winter protection, safeguard families and children against extreme cold, and preserve their dignity and well-being.

Comprehensive Winter Relief Package for Families

1. Winter-Resistant Shelter

• A fully equipped family winter tent designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, including insulated dome tent options for enhanced thermal protection.

2. Winter Bedding and Blankets

• Healthy and comfortable sleeping mattresses.
• Four heavy wool blankets (2.5 kg each) as a basic package for each family.
• Additional blankets for infants and young children.

3. Winter Clothing and Coats for Children

• Warm winter coats.
• Four complete clothing sets, each including a top, trousers, and shoes, to help meet the clothing needs of children in the family.

4. Firewood for Heating and Cooking

• Regular monthly allocations of firewood (10 kg per month) to help families stay warm and prepare meals amid the shortage of cooking fuel.

Additional Support and Complementary Assistance

• Household Cleaning and Disinfection Kits: Cleaning supplies and disinfectants to sanitize living spaces and tents and help reduce the spread of diseases.
• Baby and Infant Essentials: Distribution of diapers and warm undergarments for infants and young children.
• Supplementary Winter Food Parcels: Food packages containing essential, energy-rich food items to support families throughout the winter.

Implementation and Field Verification Mechanism

Distribution Schedule:
Tents, blankets, and winter clothing will be distributed during the pre-winter period (October and November). Firewood will then be distributed monthly during the coldest months (December, January, and February).

Local Procurement:
The campaign will prioritize local purchasing and procurement whenever possible, supporting the local economy and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian assistance.

Field Assessment and Verification:
Beneficiary families will be registered and their information verified through field assessments before distribution. This process aims to prevent duplication and ensure fair and equitable access to assistance.
